Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle, using a small amount of laundry. Hang dry (best) or tumble dry on low. Gently iron the scallops to prevent them from curling. Use a small amount of non-bleach to remove stains, as overuse may cause discoloration.
How to Reduce Wrinkles: Wash a small amount of laundry in warm (not hot) water on a gentle cycle. Remove immediately after washing and turn the laundry inside out before hanging. Our cotton garments, especially those with scalloped edges, perform best when gently ironed.
A Note on Washing Temperature: Growing up, we were taught that hot water was the only way to get clean laundry. Generally speaking, this is no longer the case. Modern detergents and washing machines are designed to effectively wash in cold water. Cold water is more energy-efficient (and environmentally friendly) and reduces the likelihood of fading. Cold water can cause wrinkles to form, so if wrinkling is a concern, use warm water (not hot).
If your garment has some residual odor from the dyeing process, you can add distilled white vinegar to the wash cycle to neutralize the odor. If this method is ineffective, please contact us and we will replace it.
About Dry Cleaning: All of our cotton garments are dry cleanable. Dry cleaning after first use helps set the color. Our products are designed for easy use, so dry cleaning isn't necessary, but you can choose to do so if you prefer.
More information on stain removal: Dye bleed is less common these days. However, it can still occur, especially when washing an item for the first time, if the dye hasn't had a chance to set before washing. The most common culprits are dark dyes: black, navy, dark red, dark purple, and dark green.
A moderate application of a chlorine-free, oxygen-based stain remover like OxiClean or Shout can help remove stains. Overuse of these products can cause discoloration. Always treat stains before putting the item in the dryer, as high temperatures can set the stain and make it more difficult to remove.
The best alternative to ironing: We believe our cotton or linen garments look best after ironing, especially those with scalloped patterns, but we understand that many people don't share our passion for ironing. If ironing isn't an option, we recommend using a handheld steam iron to remove wrinkles. Steaming takes only seconds, and every item in your wardrobe can benefit from it.
